Shelter-in-Place Issued in Beaumont, Texas Following Chemical Plant Fire

ExxonMobil Beaumont Chemical Plant Fire Prompts Evacuations, Shelter-in-Place Order

Residents Urged to Stay Indoors, Avoid Affected Area

Beaumont, Texas - A shelter-in-place order has been issued for the city of Beaumont following a fire at the ExxonMobil Beaumont Chemical Plant on Tuesday evening. The fire broke out at approximately 8:30 p.m. and has prompted evacuations and the closure of nearby roads.

The fire is currently contained, but residents are being urged to stay indoors and avoid the affected area. The shelter-in-place order is in effect for all residents within a one-mile radius of the plant, including the neighborhoods of Calder, Amelia, and Old River Road.

According to Beaumont Fire Chief Matt Gully, the fire started in a storage tank containing a chemical called propylene. The tank has since been isolated, and the fire is under control. However, officials are still monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.

Residents who are affected by the shelter-in-place order should follow these instructions:

  • Stay indoors and close all windows and doors.
  • Turn off air conditioners and fans.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Do not attempt to evacuate unless instructed to do so by authorities.

Additional information and updates will be provided as they become available.
