How UNC Wilmington Overcame 18-point Deficit to Beat North Carolina at the Dean Dome

The Seahawks' Historic Comeback Victory

UNC Wilmington overcame an 18-point deficit to defeat North Carolina 93-81 at the Dean Dome on Saturday. The Seahawks' victory is just the second time an unranked team has defeated a top-5 team in the Dean Dome since it opened in 1986.

The Game's Turning Point

The Seahawks trailed 42-24 with just under six minutes to play in the first half, but closed the half on a 10-3 run to cut the deficit to 45-34 heading into the break.

In the second half the Seahawks continued to chip away at the lead turning the deficit into just 5 points with 10:53 left in the game.

With North Carolina leading 73-70, UNC Wilmington went on a 10-0 run to take a 80-73 lead with just under 3 minutes to play.

The Seahawks held on for the 93-81 victory, thanks in large part to Kai Toews who finished with a game-high 28 points.

What's Next

With the victory, UNC Wilmington moves to 9-1 on the season while North Carolina falls to 7-2. The Seahawks will next host High Point on Tuesday, while the Tar Heels will host Portland on Wednesday.
