Who Is the Prime Minister of Thailand?
Prayut Chan-o-cha: A Former Politician and Army Officer
Prayut Chan-o-cha (born March 21, 1954) is a retired army general and politician who has served as the Prime Minister of Thailand since 2014.
Prior to his political career, Chan-o-cha held various high-ranking positions in the Royal Thai Army, including commander-in-chief from 2010 to 2014.
In 2014, Chan-o-cha led a military coup that overthrew the democratically elected government of Yingluck Shinawatra. Subsequently, he became the leader of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), a junta that ruled Thailand until 2019.
The Role of the Prime Minister
As the head of the Thai government, the prime minister is responsible for:
