Tourists Recall Terrifying Moments During Volcanic Disaster

Two Royal Caribbean cruise passengers have spoken out about their harrowing experience after being caught in a volcanic eruption while on an excursion to New Zealand's White Island on Monday.
The passengers, who remain unidentified, were among the group of 47 tourists and guides who were on the island when the volcano erupted unexpectedly. Twenty-two people have died as a result of the eruption, with many others still missing.
The survivors described the eruption as a terrifying experience. One passenger said that they had just arrived on the island and were taking photos when they heard a loud bang. They looked up and saw a cloud of ash and smoke rising from the crater. The passengers said that they ran for their lives, but the ash cloud quickly overtook them.
The other passenger said that they were able to escape the ash cloud by running into a nearby building. They said that they stayed in the building for several hours, until the ash cloud had dissipated. The passengers said that they were grateful to have survived the eruption, but that they were still traumatized by the experience.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd has expressed its sympathy for the victims of the eruption and has said that it is working to provide support to the survivors. The company has also said that it is reviewing its safety procedures for excursions to volcanic areas.
