Back-to-Back Third-Quarter Struggles Doom Lakers in Playoff Loss
Sluggish 3rd Quarter Sinks Lakers in Game 1
Lakers Survive Pelicans Comeback, Claim 7th Seed and Playoff Berth
The Los Angeles Lakers' playoff hopes were dealt a major blow in Game 1 of their first-round series against the New Orleans Pelicans. After a strong start, the Lakers faltered in the third quarter, allowing the Pelicans to take control of the game and ultimately seal a 113-103 victory.
The Lakers entered the game with momentum after claiming the 7th seed in the Western Conference and earning a hard-fought playoff berth. However, their hopes of an upset were quickly dashed as the Pelicans dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers 40-26.
The Lakers' struggles in the third quarter have become a recurring theme in their recent losses. In their final regular season game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Lakers also surrendered a large lead in the third quarter, leading to a disappointing loss.
Despite their struggles, the Lakers showed resilience in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Pelicans 32-27. However, it was not enough to overcome the deficit they had allowed in the third quarter.
Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 31 points, while Russell Westbrook added 18 points and LeBron James contributed 14 points.
Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with 24 points, while CJ McCollum added 22 points and Zion Williamson scored 18 points.
The Lakers will now look to bounce back in Game 2 on Monday, May 15th, in Los Angeles. However, they will need to find a way to address their third-quarter struggles if they want to avoid falling into a 2-0 hole in the series.
